Who we are

Haitian Flag Day Planning Committee of New Jersey, Inc. (HFDPCNJ) d/b/a Kilti Lakay is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 to empower the Haitian diaspora through culturally enriched educational programming. Today, Kilti Lakay is a grassroots community hub prioritizing the "cultural of home" through the practice of Konbit, "collective work and care," while celebrating Haitian heritage in a meaningful way.

Kilti Lakay is the name the Haitian Flag Day Planning Committee of New Jersey, Inc. works under. It's the same organization since 1998, the same volunteers behind the Union County Haitian flag raisings, now with year-round programs. Read the mission, values and who's on the board.

What we're working on this year

Three things take most of our volunteer hours right now. Each one has a way for you to help, and none of them needs experience.

NJ TPS Mutual Aid Initiative

Temporary Protected Status for Haiti has ended, and families across New Jersey are sorting out what that means for work, school and housing. We bring Know Your Rights forums to student associations, churches and community groups, run phone banks, and connect people to organizations that can help. Nothing is collected about the people we serve on this website.

Community service

Youth volunteers at the Back to School Fair, donation drives, and giveaway tables across the state. If you're a student, a parent, or an organization that needs hands, there's a form for you.

Youth leadership and Haitian heritage

Youth virtual meetings, mentorship, the Haitian Heritage Month program every May, and cultural programming that keeps Kreyòl, history and the arts in front of the next generation.
